Week 7: It’s a Dog’s Life – The Problem of Suffering

Humanity continues to grapple with the experience of suffering. In doing so some have concluded that there cannot be a God. They assert that God cannot be both all-powerful and all-loving because, if He were, He would prevent or end suffering. The Christian worldview stands in stark opposition to this understanding for it maintains that God is all-powerful and all-loving. This premise leads to a discussion of God’s “active” and “passive” wills. The course looks to the various sources of suffering, the gift of free will and the place of miracles.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, through you all things have come to be. Thank you for inspiring the creation of Dogmatic Theology and making its production possible. May it give you glory and be a blessing to all who view it. Protect all future participants and leaders of the course that they may encounter you anew through it and find within it a spiritual wellspring. Amen.
