Shortly after becoming the proud owner of "Monsi" Fr. James came to recognize how God was using this experience of pet ownership as a way to teach him significant lessons about the spiritual life. Pondering how others might also benefit from these insights beyond his homilies, Fr. James considered penning a book titled Dogmatic Theology: Spiritual Reflections on Dog Ownership, which would explore these lessons.

However, in the spring of 2009, as several staff members and volunteers of the John Paul II Media Institute (JPIIMI) gathered to consider what project they would produce next, it was proposed that the Institute use Fr. James' idea as the basis for a DVD course. It took some convincing but Fr. James agreed! Therein began a two-year effort that has culminated in this eight-week DVD course called Dogmatic Theology.

The JPIIMI's production team designed this course to appeal to all Christians and have thus included the voices of many, not only within the Catholic Church but also within the broader Christian community. Accordingly it is their sincere prayer that its viewers recognize their own voice within it, as well as that of the Saviour!

Lord Jesus, through you all things have come to be. Thank you for inspiring the creation of Dogmatic Theology and making its production possible. May it give you glory and be a blessing to all who view it. Protect all future participants and leaders of the course that they may encounter you anew through it and find within it a spiritual wellspring. Amen.
